Take rte 195 to Rte 89 at Mansfield
Center Proceed on Rte 89 to the Mansfield Library, park here at the
back of the lot. Look for the Joshua's Trust sign. You will begin here on
the yellow marked trail. The trail goes into the woods and out onto a little
stretch of Crest road before re-entering the yellow trail and skirting along
Edgewood Lane . go left on pink and then right on yellow again. Note the
"Kettle Holes left by glaciers that passed through hear long
ago." To a triple pine and down a small slope ( It echos here mom! ) Must
be why we are near Echo Lake. To the little bridge up and over. We
spot a silver state land marker on a tree we follow the yellow right -
through the pines. At the next intersection we chose left on the white trail
into the big pine wood follow to the " T " ( 20 min so far)
.
Go right , on white, after
awhile come to a branch of a Y - go right here. Walk to a
large bulging shaped pine very close to the left edge of the trail next look on
the right for a mossy stump. Behind the stump in a campers woodpile you
will find your letterbox.
Please stamp and rehide
the box privately.
To finish your walk in the pines continue down this track pass
by a left . Feathery white pines reach for you along the next stretch.
Pass the next left (which would take you to Echo Rd. ) Pass the next
right, recognize this spot we've passed this way earlier. Ahead turn to
the left on yellow over the bridge again and up the hill. Yellow turns to
pink take a right stay with pink a large Kettle Hole on the left. This takes you
to a large hemlock tree a very beautiful specimen. Follow pink to return
to view of road then right on yellow and back to the library.
Hope you have a great walk in this very distinct
section of Mansfield.
